This is a story of God taking a broken homeless boy on an incredible journey, out of his brokenness, and into a spirit filled life of miracles and provision. It is not a story of a kid lacing up his own bootstraps and overcoming the world by himself. And that is a very important distinction to make, because I want God to get all the credit for who I have become. I am currently thirty years old as I set out to write this. I am married to the woman of my dreams and the father of two beautiful children. My wife’s name is Lauren and my two kids are Parker and Mary Oliver. I have also founded and now co-own a cafe called The Riv, with my friend and business partner, Josh Barrow. This cafe is a very large part of the story. But for now, I’ll only mention that just five years after its opening, The Riv was voted the 10th best restaurant to visit in the nation by Yelp in 2022. Since my first cafe, I have opened three more in the time it has taken to write this book. Oh yeah, and there is that bit about God using The Riv to miraculously deliver my friend from a heroin addiction overnight, without a single withdrawal symptom. But we will get into how all of that happened later. It feels odd to write about myself because I am really not the main character of this story, but I believe that the miraculous journey that God has taken me on is one worth sharing. So, I thought I’d give it a go by retelling all of the wondrous acts of God that allowed me to be where I am today.
